WTCC 09: The Showdown

so it comes down to Macau. 2 9 lap races between 29 drivers, 3 of whcih fighting for the world championship; leader Tarquini, frenchman Muller and outsider Farfus. with farfus 3rd on the grid for race one and tarquini and muller back in 7th and 8th its gonna be good. im cheering on outsider farfus ofcourse in his BMW.

both muller and tarquini along with thompson had large crashes in practice so this could get interesting.

my bets are on muller to wint he championship though, although i dont want him too.

any thoughts and predictions for the finale?

Saw Lance @Contingency today outside Riviera Convention Ctr, he was in a hurry to help the broken Jeep..couldn't do an interview (time management issues). Hope his deal works out!!

Spent time with AGM/All German Motorsports team (very professional outfit), so it looks like I will be coming back with a documentary of their effort to win the Baja 1000 (also going for Class 1 points championship, only pts separate Wilson Motorsports, AGM, Letner Racing). Exciting stuff! Letner Racing is also staying at the Hotel California, where AGM is staying as well.

I'm fighting equipment issues this Baja 1000, due to my 4x4 van being non-operational (which has my satellite-DSL dish, for Internet access). I'm uploading at an Internet AP (access point) @3am in the morning!!

I can summarize everyone's attitude here at the Baja 1000, with some graphic from 2001 Zambia solar eclipse (I was in Northwest Zambia, near the Angolan border..the civil war tearing the country apart due to diamond trading):

Quoting articles vs. wholesale cut'n'pasting

Could we have a clarification on the forum's policy regarding quoting articles please?

[Declaration of interest: I used to run a motorsport website and depended on advertising revenue to make it viable.]

I've always been careful to only quote the opening paragraph or two from a story, or lift a quote which is directly relevant to the point; accompanying my post with a direct link to the original source.

I've recently noticed a trend (from one member in particular if I'm honest) to cut and paste entire articles, thereby removing any incentive for an interested reader to ever visit the website of the publisher.

I know that some countries have a "fair use" defence (the UK certainly doesn't), but I would suggest that the wholesale lifting of articles is copyright theft - even if one is careful to credit the author - and deprives websites of a potential audience.

I'd be interested to know the forum's official policy on this. I've cross-posted in F1 becuase that's where I witness this activity the most.

Frank Williams and Patrick Head have sold an equity stake in their Formula 1 team to an Austrian investment company.

Williams and Head have been the sole co-owners of Williams since it was formed in 1977 - and there has long been resistance to selling off a part of the company despite frequent speculation linking the team with numerous manufacturers.

However, Williams announced on Friday that a deal has been reached with an Austrian investment company led by investor Toto Wolff for him to have shares in the team. He will also sit on the company's board.

As well as his business activities, Wolff is a part-time racer � having competed in recent years in the FIA GT championship and the Austrian Rally Championship � in which he finished runner-up last year.

Frank Williams is expected to speak later today about the motivation behind the selling of shares.

Frank Williams and Patrick Head have sold a stake in their Grove-based Formula One team to an Austrian investment firm.

Williams Grand Prix Engineering was formed in 1977 by Williams and Head and today�s announcement marks the first time that the duo have given up equity in the team.

The investment firm is headed up by Toto Wolff, who takes a position on the company�s board.

Wolff has previously raced in the FIA GT championship and worked in driver management with Mika Hakkinen.

April first comes real early

In an absolutley stunning move reports say that USF1 has signed as number one driver and chief designer, at this late date, Robert (Bob) Long (aka as Pork Chop) of London Ont.
Bob is the reigning F4 champion in his own designed and built Gamma Mk2 F4.
At age 72 Bob is still very very fast and his car preparation second to none.
He is many time and current class champion and several time regional champion.

When told of this Bob's comments were unfortunately unprintable.
USF1 totally denies this story.
However rumours presist that efforts are still being made.

It is a good thing Bob does not even have a computer or I would be toast if he figured out who really am!!!!

2010 Notables

The new season is filled with changes.

I am really sorry that for the first season since 1988 the 2010 is looking to get underway without a single Finnish driver. This tiny nation with such a wonderful motor racing tradition has produced more f1 drivers and world champions than anyone else if size is compared. Great motoring nations such as Germany and Japan have one between them and the US has two champions. Finland: THREE champions.

First time in decades that Mercedes Benz will field a works team.

First time Mclaren will consist of TWO English drivers that are also the two recent consecutive world champions - and conceivably one of them could well be the champion in 2010.

We have not seen in a long while so many driver changes amongst teams.

No refuelling stops [YIPPEEE!!!!] for I think 15 years?

First time in 27 years that there will be no Japanese engined car on the grid.

Interesting? Any other notable points for 2010?

2010 Chassis Designations

Do I have these correct? Even remotely?

McLaren - MP4-25
Red Bull - RB6
Williams - FW32
Renault - R30
Force India - VJM03
Toro Rosso - STR5
Ferrari - F2009 - (since F60 was specifically out of order to celebrate the Scuderia's 60th anniversary)
Lotus - by rights it should be 120, but the organisation isn't even remotely connected to Team Lotus is it?
Mercedes - W246 which is the next "Wagennummer"
Campos - AC110? - Since Dallara are building the cars, their usual thing is to simply add the category and the year. This seems logical.
Manor - Dallara also were building Manor's cars in F3, so again I don't know.
US F1 - Is this even a real prospect? Personally I won't believe they exist unless they show up with a car. This is looking suspiciously as infamous as the Lola Mastercard debacle.

F1 Newbie in Need of Help

I would like to know what race it was where Alonso and schumacher had a epic battle for the race win. It was either the 05 or 06 of Alonso's championship seasons, and I want to say it was either at Spa or Brazil. Please help correct and inform me and also if anyone knows where I could find video of the race it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

This sounds like a nightmare for other than already proven KERS of McLaren or Ferrari teams, especially the rookie Cosworth teams?
